What does this represent and why is it such an important pillar?

Data privacy refers to an individual’s right to control personal information and decide how it is collected, stored, used, and shared. In other words, it is the guardian defending our online boundaries, ensuring that sensitive details do not fall into the wrong hands or are not used improperly. In a world where our data becomes a currency in the digital market and cyber threats become increasingly common, the need for their protection reaches unprecedented levels.
An essential aspect of their security is respect for individual rights and the privacy of each user. In this context, the importance of personal data privacy becomes a fundamental pillar of a healthy and responsible virtual society. It is both a right and a collective responsibility to build and maintain an online environment in which every individual feels safe and protected.

What do people think about the importance of personal data privacy?

According to a study conducted by SAS, 73% of survey participants are more concerned about the security of their data than a few years ago, and 64% believe that their data is less secure currently. In terms of age groups, baby boomers (55 years and older) express the highest level of concern (78%), compared to 66% among millennials and 72% among Generation X. Regarding trust in organizations, the healthcare and banking sectors stand out with the highest levels of trust from respondents, at 47% and 46%, respectively.

CISCO Study – Growing Concerns Regarding Information Privacy

Also, a study by CISCO highlights the increasing concerns about the importance of personal data privacy. According to the global survey, 90% of respondents avoid purchases from organizations that do not ensure adequate protection, and 91% believe that external security certifications are essential in their buying process. 46% of them are skeptical about organizations’ ability to protect their information, with the main reason being a lack of clear understanding of how these organizations use their data.

Substantial changes have occurred in the global data privacy landscape, and laws governing their protection have played a crucial role in ensuring accountability for governments and organizations in handling personal information. Over two-thirds of the world’s countries (128 out of 194) have already implemented GDPR laws, highlighting a global trend towards safeguarding this information.
